BRIGHTON HILL is the coronavirus hotspot in Basingstoke and Deane, figures have revealed.

The area has a rolling rate of 249.1 cases per 100,000 of the population, which is one of three areas of the borough with a higher case rate than the national average.

18 people tested positive for the virus in the seven days to November 21, which is an increase of more than 150 per cent on the week before.

Popley recorded 33 new cases in the same seven day period - but because it has a higher population than Brighton Hill, its rolling rate of 237.2 is lower.

Houndmills & Oakridge is the other area with a higher case rate than the national average, after recording 15 new cases in the week to November 21.

An interactive map on the government website shows just how many people have tested positive for the virus in each area of the county over the seven-day period up to Sunday, November 8.

Public Health England breaks down the numbers of coronavirus cases into neighbourhoods called 'Middle Super Output Areas' (MSOAs), which are smaller than council wards and based on population rather than geographical area.

The interactive map allows users to type in their postcode and see how many cases were reported in their area and if it has increased or decreased from the week before. The darker the colour on the image, the more positive test results have been recorded.

The map highlights which areas of the nation have three or more confirmed cases of the virus and colour co-coordinates the areas by how many cases they have.

Just days after it was confirmed that Hampshire would be placed in tier two measures at the end of lockdown, coronavirus cases remain below the national average in Basingstoke and Deane.

206 people tested positive for the virus in the borough in the seven days to November 21, which is down 21.7 per cent on the previous week.

The rolling rate of 116.7 is well below the national average.

In Hampshire as a whole, the rate of 113.8 is also below the national average.
