A NEW family-run tearoom will be opening in Basingstoke town centre soon.

The independent The First Floor Tea Room will be opening in Church Street, serving seasonal teas, coffees, and baked goods.

Owners Andy and Agnes Fixler, who have a background in both hospitality and travel, are working around the clock and are now in the final stages of preparation before opening.

The relaxing and cosy tearoom has a menu put together following hours of researching and testing, with the owners trying different combinations and pairing old favourites with new ideas.

Sweet treats include chocolate chip cookie pizza; rugelach – a flaky, butter dough baked with different fillings; gerbaud – a homemade layer cake; and traditional apple pie.

The café will also include a selection of loose-leaf teas, such as winter romance, Moroccan mint, and lemon meringue.

The First Floor Tea Room’s website states: “We have a passion for experimenting and serving you the best choices. Therefore, our regular customer favourites are joined by new and renewed, mouth-watering delicacies. Our lounge (the tearoom) was created with peace and harmony in mind, providing our customers with that feeling of home and cosiness.

“Our position on the first floor gave us inspiration to think outside the box. The result is our ‘First Floor Tea Room’, designed to give that ‘home away from home’ experience.”
