Whether it’s overpriced, in the wrong area or just too small - there are plenty of reasons a property might not sell.
According to a survey by Rightmove, more than 4,000 home-movers were looking for bigger gardens, homes and space for a home office - however this wasn’t the case for first-time buyers.
Whatever the reason, here are some Swindon homes that haven’t sold despite being on the market for years:
First listed: March 2018
Cloverlands, SN25
£340,000
This four-bedroom detached house has been on the market for more than two years, in that time it has been reduced by just under £20,000.
Outside the property boasts an enviable-sized garden, off-road parking and a garage.
The interior of the property could do with a bit of TLC in some areas but does benefit from a modern bathroom and kitchen.
First listed: May 2018
Lincoln Street, SN1
£150,000
This two-bedroom flat is currently on the market with Allen and Harris.
Within its two years on the market the property has been reduced three times by a total of £25,000.
Despite being described as in an 'excellent condition throughout' the property still is yet to sell.
Offered with no-onward chain the flat is advertised as a great investment purchase.
First listed: August 2018
County Road, SN1
£275,000
Offering abundant space this three-bedroom terraced house absolutely oozes potential.
With an "unofficial loft conversion" and a garden that has possibly seen better days this property has so far struggled to sell.
However, this property's flaws shouldn't deter potential buyers as there is a lot of scope for the new owners to really put their own stamp on the place.
First listed: October 2018
Stafford Street, Old Town, SN1
£189,500
This mid-terrace townhouse is located in the sought after area of Swindon Old Town.
The three-bedroom home has a unique design and decoration which would lend itself to some modernisation.
Boasting a south facing garden the property does not have any private parking or external storage.
First listed: December 2018
Ashlar Court, Marlborough Road, SN3
£198,000
Situated in what is described as a modern and popular development, this two-bedroom flat has nearly been on the market for two years.
The property is offered with no onward chain and even has sheltered parking for two cars.
Boasting well-proportioned, modern rooms throughout it is unclear why this flat hasn't sold.
