NO ACTION was taken against a member of council staff accused of physically attacking a parent outside a school.

A complaint was made to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council on January 17 this year, following the alleged incident.

Details of the alleged incident, which was part of a list of 254 complaints made to the council between January and June this year, were revealed in a Freedom of Information request submitted by the Gazette.

It said: “Colleague of Basingstoke and Deane abusive verbally and physically attack (sic) a parent outside school.”

The Gazette has asked the borough council what the outcome of the complaint was, and received a response saying: “The complaint was investigated in line with council policies and procedures and no further action was taken.”

The council said the matter was dealt with internally and declined to say at which school the incident happened.

It also declined to say whether the council was able to determine if the allegation was true.

The complaint was one of 15 made to the council between January and June this year regarding the behaviour of council staff.

Other complaints made included aggression from bin crews; harassment; abusive council workers; and rudeness.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s head of HR, communications and policy Sarah Cragg said: “It is inappropriate to discuss employment matters about individual employees.

“We take complaints and allegations about the conduct of our staff very seriously and will take appropriate action, if required, once we have fully investigated complaints in line with council policies and procedures.

“As a council, we believe all customers and residents should always receive the highest standard of customer service. If an individual is unhappy with an interaction with the council, they can report it to us at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/complaint-form for further investigation.”
