TWICE as many coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Basingstoke and Deane in the past seven days than in the previous week, figures reveal.

Data released by the government on Sunday, November 15 at 4.09pm show that there have been four deaths reported within 28 days of a positive test for Covid-19 since November 9 - up 100 per cent from two reported in the previous seven day period.

In addition, 277 cases were reported in the borough in the past week - 27 of which were reported yesterday.

This is an increase of 51 cases (22.6 per cent) on the previous seven day period.

However, the coronavirus 'rate' in Basingstoke and Deane - the number of people testing positive per 100,000 of the population - remains below the UK average.

On average, 144.4 people test positive per 100,000 of the population, compared to a country-wide rate of 250.2.

Schools in the borough to report a positive case of Covid last week included The Vyne in South View; Oakridge Junior School, in Oakridge Road; The Clere School, in Burghclere; Costello School, in Crossborough Hill; Marnel Infant School, in Popley; and, most recently, Bishop Challoner school in South Ham.
