Graeme Hewitt was on the money when he complained about the changes to council car parking charges (Gazette 15th October).

The introduction of a 10 pence price rise for 2 hours parking was more than ill timed!

Almost all shops are encouraging contactless or card payments to reduce the risk of Coronavirus transmission thus the required 10 pence coins are in short supply.

Arriving at the Sarum Hill car park I found myself obliged to pay £3 for the minimum 2 hours parking instead of the old £2 fee.

Adding insult to injury the previous 30 minute and 1 hour options had also been removed.

Town centre retailers have enough problems without the council encouraging online shopping by increasing parking charges.
