TEN new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Basingstoke and Deane yesterday.

The new cases bring the total number of diagnosed Covid cases in the borough to 1,246 since the start of the pandemic.

It comes as 92 cases were recorded across Hampshire as a whole.

In the UK, there were 18,804 people who tested positive for the virus on Monday.

Yesterday, it was announced that a new walk-in testing site would open at The Anvil theatre.

The Anvil has been closed since March and will remain so until the end of the year at the earliest, and was transformed yesterday into a walk-in testing clinic.

It is in response to a rise in demand for coronavirus tests, and one of five new sites in Hampshire that opened up on Monday.

Also, data revealed yesterday that the rate of new cases being recorded in Basingstoke and Deane per head had fallen slightly.

The rate for the seven days to October 15 - measured in the number of new cases per 100,000 population - sits at 50.4, down from 51 the previous week.
