When do the clocks go back in 2020? Things to do in Bolton with your extra hour

THE clocks go back this weekend, meaning people across the UK have an extra hour to themselves.

While you could spend your extra hour in the day having a well-deserved lie in, there are plenty of other activites you could be doing in Bolton with that extra hour.

Here's exactly when the clocks go back and five ways to spend that extra hour:

When do the clocks go back?

On Sunday 25th October at 2am the clocks will go back an hour.

This means that it will go back to 1am while many of us are likely to be sleeping.

Clocks on the majority of phones and laptops are likely to reset themselves- but don’t forget to manually adjust any clocks or watches or you might find yourself running late for any appointments.

Get some reading in

When was the last time you sat down with a book and simply got lost in the story?

Sunday is the perfect time to rediscover your love of reading without the excuse of being short on time.

There are plenty of Bolton-based authors to consider when perusing the book shelves.

Before she passed away in 2016, Ruth Hamilton published many best-selling novels such as ‘Spinning Jenny’, ‘The Bells of Scotland Road’ and ‘Mulligan’s Yard’.

Do some online shopping

We might only be in October- but it’s never too early to get your Christmas shopping list started.

You could use your extra hour off doing some online shopping and gift inspiration- failing that, you could always treat yourself to an item or two.

However, have you also considered shopping locally and supporting smaller business with your shopping ventures?

If you’re looking for some handmade art, then Bolton Etsy seller Bianca Hudson Art has some beautiful artwork for sale.

You can find her work at Etsy.

If you’re shopping for something more seasonal, then these Autumn leaf earrings from local seller, claycessories, could be the ideal purchase.

Carve a pumpkin

With Halloween just around the corner, now is the perfect time to carve some pumpkins with the kids and start decorating your house.

While you could buy one from your local supermarket, another fun idea is to head down to your local pumpkin patch and choose your own pumpkin

There are hundreds of pumpkins to choose from at Smithills Open Farm- tickets cost £5 per pumpkin you want to take home.

Staff at the farm will be dressed up in fancy dress so make sure to snap a picture with the zombie farmers and scarecrows before you leave.

If you want to grab a pumpkin for yourself, pumpkin picking takes place between the 24th-31st October- make sure to buy your tickets online before heading to the farm.

Go for a walk

While it might seem like a mundane way to spend your extra hour on Sunday, walking gives you a chance to explore some of Bolton’s beauty spots.

If you haven’t embarked on the popular walking route up Rivington Pike, this weekend could be the perfect time to do so.

With manmade caved and terraced Japanese gardens in the surrounding area, there is certainly enough to keep you and your family entertained during your autumnal hike.

Make sure to bring your camera with your at the summit of Rivington Pike Tower; if the weather is clear you can look forward to views of Cheshire, The Lake District and even the Isle of Man.

Try something completely different

If you still don’t know how to spend your extra hour off this Sunday, why not do something that’s completely out of your comfort zone?

If you haven’t already been, Jump Xtreme trampoline park is open from 10am-6pm on Sunday and a one hour session costs £9.95 per person.

It’s a great place to bounce away the cobwebs and even improve your fitness.

If you fancy going to this trampoline park, then make sure to book your tickets online.
