POLICE were called out last night after reports that a man was lying on the ring road slip road.

Officers were scrambled to the southbound exit slip road of Ringway East and Churchill Way East after a member of the public thought he saw a body on the road.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the man conscious and breathing, with no injuries.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that they were treating it as a "concern for safety".

One resident who was driving on the road shortly after midnight described how he had to swerve around what he thought was a pile of rubbish dumped on the road.

But as the motorist went around it, he noticed "what looked like an arm".

The spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We received report of a man lying in the road on Churchill Way East early hours of Saturday 17, October from a member of the public.

"He was conscious and breathing, with no injuries.

"Police treating as a concern for safety."
