LAVERSTOCK and Ford took the points in convincing fashion when they faced local rivals Bemerton at a packed Dell on Tuesday night.

Going into the game unbeaten and top of the table Lavvy started in scintillating fashion scoring with their first attack Russ Jones bundled the ball home for an early lead.

With fans of both sides still streaming in the gate things got even better for the home side four minutes later, a lightning quick counter attack by Lavvy saw Jim Ward rampage forward and his cross was met by striker Chae Sykes who made no mistake.

By now Harlequins looked startled at their host's start but suffered another blow on 19, former Harlequins Jake Rawkins & Russ Jones combined to tee up Lewis Wakeford who slotted his effort past a stunned Creese in goal.

Bemerton rallied and saw an effort from a corner narrowly miss the target but did finally get back into the game on 38, a long hopeful ball was flicked on and former Bulldog Kane O'Keefe smashed his effort home.

The goal, if anything, added more fuel to the laverstock fire, another quick attack saw Jones feed the lively Jim Ward who smashed home his effort and his side's fourth on the stroke of half time to give his side a 4-1 lead.

Bemerton came out more composed in the second half and made changes taking off Ramos & Peel. Despite their advances, Bourner & Barr were in defiant mood and thwarted each attack that came at them.

The lively Russ Jones then squeezed through the back line only to narrowly miss the target but he didn't have to wait long for his second, when on 66, the unplayable Chae Syke crossed for Jones to fire home from close range sending The Dell into absolute delirium.

After the game, manager Liam McConnell said: "What a performance from our lads tonight. There was so much energy in that team tonight they would have carried on running until tomorrow if they had to.

"For them to perform like that, not just against such a strong Bemerton side but in front of a record crowd for The Dell, you really couldn't write the script better. What everyone saw tonight is an example of what they are capable of against some talented opposition.

"We had pressure on us due to our fantastic start to the league campaign but the way we took that game by the scruff of the neck and never let go perhaps suggests it is the finest performance I have seen from us in my six seasons here.

"All the lads, Dave, Graham, myself & the club can be proud of that one tonight. The team spirit we have created is incredible."
