Two people are currently in custody after a burglary at an antique store.
At around 3.45am this morning a member of the public who was on their way home from work saw two men breaking in to the antiques store in Catherine Street.
Within one minute of the call being received, officers were on scene.
They located a broken window and detained one man. A second man attempted to make off but was detained by officers.
Having smashed a window at the store, a quantity of silverware and jewellery had been removed – this was all recovered by officers.
Two men, both aged in their 40s and from Salisbury, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in custody in Melksham for questioning.
Insp Pete Sparrow said: “This was an excellent result – thanks to the vigilant member of the public who reported the suspicious activity, officers were able to arrive immediately at the scene and detain two men – a quantity of antiques and jewellery was also recovered and our enquiries remain ongoing.”
Anyone with further information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54200103211.
