A TADLEY supermarket was broken into overnight as residents were woken up by loud banging and smoke.
The break-in at Tesco Express, on Heath End Road, Baughurst, happened at around 2am.
One resident, who asked not to be named, told The Gazette that they called police when they heard noise coming from the store early this morning.
They said: “The alarm woke us up, then some form of drilling, loads of smoke and banging about. We called the police straight away."
The shop was initially closed and taped off.
The resident said no communication or further information was shared with them.
The Tadley store reopened at 1.30pm this afternoon, a Tesco spokesman said.
“We’re pleased to confirm that our Baughurst Express store is open as usual and serving customers following a burglary last night. We are assisting the police with their enquiries," they said.
The Gazette has contacted Hampshire Constabulary for further information.
