FORMER England frontman Ian Wright expressed his delight for Danny Ings after the Saints striker opened his account for his country.

The in-form hitman netted a stunning overhead kick after 63 minutes for the Three Lions at Wembley, adding to goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Connor Coady to see off Ryan Giggs’s Wales 3-0.

Ings, who also made his first senior international start in the friendly, played 90 minutes as England ran out comfortable winners.

Former Arsenal hero Wright played 33 times for England, scoring on nine occasions.

And he was pleased to see Ings overcome his previous injury issues to get off the mark for his country.

Speaking about Ings as a pundit on ITV, Wright said: “I was delighted for him. He made his debut in 2015 in Lithuania. A week later he did his cruciate ligament.

“He’s taken a long time to get back here and I am quite pleased for him.

“When everything broke out you’re thinking ‘he’s going to miss his chance here’.

“But, again, he’s in that six-yard box, in the middle just ghosting in, and then bam. It’s a great goal for him.”

Saints skipper James Ward-Prowse came off the bench to join Ings in the capital, working keeper Wayne Hennessey with a fierce strike in stoppage time.
