ALL Cineworld sites are set to temporarily close, it has been confirmed.

Britian's biggest cinema chain made the announcement over the weekend that all 127 of its UK theatres - including in Aldershot and Bracknell.

The move puts 5,500 UK jobs at risk.

It comes after it was revealed that the release of the latest film in the James Bond franchise - No Time to Die - was delayed again because of the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.

Daniel Craig's final outing as British spy 007 was initially due to be released in April, before being postponed to November and again to April 2021.

The Sunday Times said yesterday that Cineworld is writing to the prime minister and the culture secretary stating the sector is now 'unviable' due to blockbuster movies being postponed by film studios.

Cineworld chief executive, Mooky Greidinger, said: "We did everything in our power to support safe and sustainable reopenings in all of our markets.

"Cineworld will continue to monitor the situation closely and will communicate any future plans to resume operations in these markets at the appropriate time, when key markets have more concrete guidance on their reopening status and, in turn, studios are able to bring their pipeline of major releases back to the big screen."

Many blockbusters were postponed or delayed by the pandemic, with James Bond topping the list.

A statement on the film's official Twitter account said: "MGM, Universal and Bond producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, today announced the release of No Time To Die, the 25th film in the James Bond series, will be delayed until 2 April 2021 in order to be seen by a worldwide theatrical audience.

"We understand the delay will be disappointing to our fans but we now look forward to sharing No Time To Die next year."
