A MOTHER who was the first to respond after a car hit a bus stop and flipped onto its roof says she screamed when she first saw the wreckage.

Hilley Cush, who lives on Pershore Road, adjacent to where the incident on Tuesday night took place, said that the scene "was like something out of a film".

The 28-year-old mother-of-two was in her living room when she heard a car go past her house, shortly followed by a loud bang. She went outside to find the bus stop at the other side of the road completely destroyed and a car on its roof.

Basingstoke Gazette:

"The bang was so loud and it is so spooky and disturbing hearing how quiet the road was and you could just hear these men in pain," Hilley told The Gazette.

She called an ambulance and was able to help the two passengers, who were trying to kick the glass windscreen out to escape the vehicle. The driver suffered a hand injury and was taken to hospital, but the passenger "didn't have a scratch", according to Hilley.

The technician said: "I was surprised that they were okay.

Basingstoke Gazette:

"My partners told me not to go over there in case I saw something I didn't want to see.

"I heard these men just screaming in pain and I couldn't just stand there."

Police closed the road for around 2 hours after the incident, shortly before 11.30pm, whilst two fire engines from Basingstoke attended to make the scene safe.
