A BUS stop in Popley has been destroyed after a crash last night.

Photos taken at the scene show the mangled remains of the shelter, which was hit by a vehicle late on Tuesday evening.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Fire engines, ambulance and police attended the incident, which occurred on the junction of Popley Way and Tewkesbury Close.

On Wednesday morning, glass remains shattered over the path and grass, with the metal structure warped out of shape.

The front end of the car involved in the crash remains in the cordoned off zone, whilst the roof has collapsed and is resting upon the wreckage.

Photos from one eye-witness also show the car on its roof just after the incident.

Basingstoke Gazette:

The vehicle came to rest in the middle of the road, close to the traffic island, before it was uprighted.
