HOUSE prices in Basingstoke and Deane increased more than the average for the South East in June, new figures show.

The average Basingstoke and Deane house price in June was £309,369, Land Registry figures show – a 1.9 per cent increase on May.

Over the same month, prices increased 1.6 per cent across the South East and 0.7 per cent across the UK as a whole.

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Basingstoke and Deane rose by £19,000, making it fifth among the South East’s 68 local authorities for annual growth.

The best annual growth in the region was in Test Valley, where properties increased on average by 9.2 per cent, to £349,000.

At the other end of the scale, properties in Eastbourne dropped five per cent in value, giving an average price of £232,000.

However, buyers in Basingstoke paid 5.6 per cent less than the average South East price (£328,000) in June.

Across the South East, property prices are high compared to those across the UK, where the average cost £238,000.
