SAINTS are "in talks" with Everton over a deal to sign midfielder Tom Davies, according to talkSPORT.
Boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has made no secret of his desire to sign a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who left to join Tottenham Hotspur over the summer.
And the national radio station claims Saints are "now set" to bring Davies to St Mary's on a season-long loan deal.
Davies, 22, has played 123 times for his boyhood club Everton, including twice this season.
He has netted six goals in that time, including one at St Mary's last season, but has seen fellow central midfielders Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan arrive at Goodison Park this summer.
The England under-21 international was the youngest player to captain an Everton side back in 2018 and has donned the armband on numerous occasions since.
Saints have signed defenders Kyle Walker-Peters and Mohammed Salisu so far in this transfer window.
