A FOURTH man has been jailed for his part in a drunken brawl targetting football fans from a rival club.

William Holmes fought outside the Scholars Arms in Above Bar Street after a day of drinking.

Alongside friends and Saints fans Lewis Dean Austin, Thomas Kelly and Connor Pengelly he swore and hurled abuse at Tottenham Hotspur fans.

Daily Echo:

He was jailed for affray for seven months at Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday having previously pleaded guilty.

The 22-year-old of Michelmarsh Close in Rownhams has been slapped with a six-year football banning order and ordered to pay a £149 victim surcharge.

During the sentencing of Austin, Kelly and Pengelly in August, CCTV footage played to the court showed them after the Saints v Tottenham match on January 25 this year.

A brawl erupted outside the Scholars Arms and they were seen running at Spurs fans, trying to kick and punch them.

Austin, 24, of Heysham Road was “so drunk he couldn’t even remember watching the match”, which was a 1-1 draw in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, footage of Pengelly, 21, of Brunswick Road showed him lunging at the visiting fans.

Judge Christopher Parker QC said that although no physical harm was caused the incident was plainly instigated.

Judge Parker jailed Kelly, 29, of Claremont Road for 12 months, Austin for ten months and Pengelly for eight months.

They were all given a six-year football match ban.
