All learner drivers can now book practical driving tests, but the availability is limited with six weeks of spaces gone in a day.

The DVSA reopened its driving test booking service at 8am yesterday September 7, for tests to be taken in the next six weeks.

All the spaces available have now been booked in less than 24 hours.

Previously, only learners who had tests postponed due to Covid-19 could book a practical test but now all learners who have passed their theory exam can try to book a place.

The booking service will reopen at 8am on next Monday September 14, for learners to book tests within the next 18 weeks.

The DVSA has extend the period in which tests are available from 6 weeks to 18 weeks ahead and will add over 375,000 test appointments on Monday September 14.

To tackle the problem the DVSA also plans to increase the number of car driving tests per day from 5 to 6.

But the wait for a test is causing panic amongst learners who are unable to book a driving test before their theory pass expires.

Learners who cannot book a test slot could be forced to pay for a retake of their theory and it’s impossible to get through to the DVSA

The DVSA has now warned motorists only to book a test if they are ready for one.

The wedsite states: “It is vital that you are test-ready if you want to book now, as tests could be at short notice.

On average fewer than 50% pass their driving test and there could be long waiting times for a retest - you should only book when you are confident you can pass.”

With the new test booking system there are no waiting or cancellation list, the only available appointments are the ones which learners can view online.
