RESIDENTS are invited to attend a virtual consultation after plans were revealed for a new solar farm on the outskirts of Bramley.

As previously reported by The Gazette, plans have been submitted for an 81-hectare development across six fields to the north of the village - close to the existing Bramley Frith distribution centre.

And now, the directors of the firm behind the project have spoken out in favour of it.

If approved, the plans would power 17,000 homes and save the equivalent of 8,000 cars worth of carbon dioxide.

Ian Harding, director of Enso Energy, said: “Our ambition is to use the latest solar technology to make a positive impact on the country and communities we work with.

"This application follows the climate emergency declared by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, and the local and national climate change targets that are enshrined in law.

"The Bramley Frith Solar Farm will also help to support the Horizon 2050 vision of the borough that highlights a local desire to reduce carbon emissions and the use of fossil fuels. We believe Bramley Frith Solar Farm can play a crucial part in bringing that about”.

Enso Energy are a renewable energy company based in Dursley, near Stroud, and say they are "one of the UK's most experienced renewable energy developers".

They are currently exploring or proposing development at 11 sites in the UK, including Bramley.

Andrew King, director, added: “It’s vital that local communities are able to see and shape planning applications that may have an impact on them. That’s why we are inviting the local community to have their say online via our webinar and website."

The webinar takes place on September 8.
