The iconic Red Arrows are set to fly over Hampshire on Saturday to mark VJ Day 75.

VJ Day (Victory of Japan) is celebrated to mark the end of the Second World War.

It followed Japan's surrender after the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which saw more than 100,000 civilians killed - according to estimates.

To mark the 75th anniversary, the British Red Arrows are performing several flights this afternoon (August 15).

At 5pm, the Red Arrow planes will take off for their third and final flight from Cardiff towards London before heading towards Chelmsford.

The current flight plan indicates the distinctive aircraft will pass over Newbury at 5.20pm and then Overton at 5.21pm.

VJ Day was jubilantly celebrated at home on August 15, 1945, three months after VE Day, but many Far East troops did not return until 1946, carrying back terrible memories, particularly freed prisoners of war.

Some 140,000 Allied military personnel were captured by the Japanese, with, when including civilian internees, around 30,000 dying.
