FIRE crews from Tadley have been called out to a lightning strike this evening.

Parts of Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey saw torrential rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon after a week's worth of sunshine and sweltering temperatures finally broke down.

The results were spectacular - with several lightning flashes and rumbles of thunder, accompanied with hammering rain and windy conditions.

And one lightning strike in Mortimer caused damage to an Oak Tree.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Two hose reel jets were needed to extinguish a fire, which spread to adjoining hedgerow, whilst the tree was snapped in half.

Commenting on the incident, Tadley Fire Station said: "The power of mother nature is something to behold."
