A DEESIDE personal trainer is offering free fitness sessions for NHS staff and key workers as a show of gratitude for their efforts during the pandemic.

Kathryn Jones, of Aspire to Inspire Fitness, is holding the 45 minute sessions on Buckley Common and in Connah's Quay for the next four weeks.

Her and fellow personal trainer Jordan Ford will be running the sessions at the two locations - which are open to everyone. But NHS staff and key workers need only book their place here and show their work ID to reap the benefits for free.

A maximum of 30 people can attend each session and it is run on a first come, first save basis. Hand sanitisers are provided and Kat checks people's temperature with a head scan thermometer.

The Leader:

She said: "I myself was a key worker during lockdown and I know how hard it is just to get out and about let alone look after yourself.

"Sometimes after a long and stressful day at work you need to take time out- whether that be through a hobby or just 'you' time.

"NHS staff spend long hours looking after people, and they should have time to look after themselves - regular exercise and physical activity is good for overall health and staying active also helps with your mindset."

Kat has also set up a mobile gym as a short term alternative for plans she outlined in March for a gym exclusively for women - which would also provide childcare and mental health services.

She explained: "I crowdfunded in March for the gym but due to Covid I struggled to raise the money I needed.

"I was furloughed from work so went to work in a local Tesco during lockdown for 11 weeks to raise the rest of the funds.

"And I now have a van and a fully equipped mobile gym.

"I travel all over and my first month of trading has seen 35 clients on the books. My aim is at end of the year to get another van, then next year the gym itself."

A testament to how popular Kat's mobile gym is is that her schedule is fully booked until September.
