FOR every pound residents spend in Basingstoke, half of that money will stay in the local community.
That is why it is vital that people help the town's economy by spending locally, according to the chief executive of Basingstoke Together.
Jane Stewart is urging residents to support the town centre by buying local as part of The Gazette-backed I Buy Basingstoke campaign.
Jane said: "Buying local and supporting local businesses is crucial to the recovery and long-term future of our town centre. For every pound you spend locally, 50p stays in the community.
"Buying local keeps local people in employment. Using local suppliers keeps businesses viable. Supporting our independent businesses ensures the town has individuality, vitality and interest to our visitors."
Residents can demonstrate their I Buy Basingstoke commitment by shopping local, applying the I Buy Basingstoke frame to your Facebook profile and using the hashtag #ibuybasingstoke.
"There are some amazing businesses in our community, owned and run by some very passionate and hardworking people. And I’m delighted The Basingstoke Gazette are supporting us with this campaign," said Jane.
