A PENSIONER who assaulted a police officer and a paramedic before damaging an ambulance has been remanded on bail.

Derek Butland, from Brighton Hill, is accused of attacking two emergency service workers during an incident on Sunday, May 5, 2019.

The 73-year-old, of Gershwin Road, has pleaded not guilty to beating PC Jack Waeghemacker and ambulance worker James Karthauser as they tried to do their jobs.

Butland is also accused of being “reckless” and “damaging” an ambulance before destroying PC Waeghemacker’s £179 Samsung watch.

The pensioner has pleaded guilty to six counts of assault and criminal damage.

He has been remanded on unconditional bail until September 21, 2020, where he will appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court at 2pm.
