A BASINGSTOKE student has been going above and beyond to support those in need during Covid-19 pandemic.

Basingstoke College of Technology student Caitlin Goodman is setting an example for everyone by working a full-time job supporting vulnerable people while keeping up to date with work and tasks for her full-time health and social care course at college.

Caitlin works at Laisie Loddon on a part-time basis, but during the pandemic, has increased her hours as a key worker to help as much as she can, working as a key worker to assist those who are in need. When she finishes for the day, Caitlin spends her time catching up on her course at BCoT to ensure she is not falling behind.

Caitlin said: “My teachers have been so supportive of me working during this period. I put my work first because I care. I’m not worried about working, it can be draining, but it’s worth it.”

Sharon Falconer, Caitlin’s lecturer, said: “Caitlin is an example of how to apply her studies and be dedicated to her chosen vocation. We are very proud of her fantastic contribution to the caring profession.”

Caitlin is currently undertaking a Level 3 Certificate in health and social care and she chose this course after she completed some work experience in a care home and realised that she wanted to pursue a career in care. Following a visit to an open event at BCoT, Caitlin applied to attend BCoT.

Caitlin’s work on the front line is just one example of how BCoT’s students and staff are helping the community during the pandemic. The college has provided PPE to the local hospital and has donated food to those in need in Basingstoke’s wider community.
