A KEMPSHOTT man has completed his challenge to cycle 600 miles to raise money for St Michael's Hospice is memory of his late wife.

Colin Godfrey was not put off by the pandemic, which cancelled the charity's Big Wheel 2020 challenge, and continued to cycle in the wind and rain with his daughter, Lizzie, to hit his target by June 30.

Colin, from Basingstoke, first bought his road bike in July 2019, the same month that his wife Jennifer was receiving treatment for breast cancer.

He was inspired by his daughter who took up the sport 18 months before.

In August, Jennifer sadly passed away after being cared for in her last weeks by St Michael’s Hospice.

Colin said: “I decided that with no Big Wheel this year I would set myself a challenge of 500 miles by the end of June but realised that two weeks in I would finish early and increased it to 600 miles.”

He completed the challenge on June 30 with a 14 mile ride with Lizzie in the wind and rain and has already raised more than his original target of £500 but would like to double this.
