OAKHAVEN has opened the latest in a series of shops that raise vital funds for the Hampshire hospice.

The chairman of Oakhaven Hospice Trust, Professor Paul Dodson, performed the opening ceremony watched by shop manager Kira Pink, assistant manager Sally Bignell, and a team of volunteers.

The store in Commercial Road, Totton, sells a selection of clothing, accessories and ornaments.

Social distancing measures are in force, with hand sanitiser at the entrance, markings that aim to limit the number of people inside, and all donated goods quarantined for 72 hours before going on display.

Prof Dodson said: "We are delighted to be opening our new charity shop in Totton.

“Oakhaven Hospice has been providing the Totton community with a wide range of services for over two years at the request of the NHS Clinical Commission Groups and we currently care for about 110 people from Totton each year."

As well as providing palliative care both at home and in the hospice, Oakhaven provides a raft of other services.

The complex in Lower Pennington Lane, Pennington, receives only 14% of its income from the government. The rest comes from fundraising, gifts in wills and donations.

Oakhaven now has charity shops in Highcliffe, Hythe, Lymington, New Milton, Shirley and Totton.
