SUPPORTERS of Longdown Activity Farm have spoken of their shock and disgust after its dog kennels were stolen.

Thieves targeted the popular attraction in Deerleap Lane, Ashurst, and made off with the three steel kennels, which were used by dog owners visiting the site.

The theft is another blow to the farm, which has been closed to visitors since the start of the lockdown.

Writing on social media one person posted: "We know how much you have been suffering over the last few months. Now this."

Owner Bryan Pass said the intruders unbolted the kennels from their concrete base after removing the roof and leaving it on the ground.

He added: "People visiting the farm could use the kennels instead of leaving their dogs in the car. They were greatly appreciated by our visitors as more holidaymakers like to bring their dogs with them.

"As we're already struggling with the impact of Covid-19 we're are not in a position to replace the kennels immediately."

The theft occurred in the early hours of yesterday. Mr Pass urged anyone who saw activity in the area to contact him so he could inform the police.

In a message to the local community he added: "Please be aware that this type of criminal activity is currently taking place and be extra vigilant to protect your own property and home."

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with several people describing the theft of dog kennels as "unbelievable".

One woman posted: "This is our favourite farm - we love Longdown.

"We have a pooch and live over 200 miles away so when we visit it’s part of a holiday, dog included. It will now not be possible to visit you in future as we can’t leave our dog in a hot caravan."

Another woman posted: "I cannot believe the amount of thieving that's going on - and to steal dog kennels."
