An arson investigation is underway after a car went up in flames last night.

Police confirmed they were called just before 10.30pm on Wednesday to a report that a car parked in Woolhampton Drive, Basingstoke, was on fire.

"Colleagues at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire," a police spokesman said.

"The incident is being treated as arson and an investigation is underway.

"Officers are looking at the circumstances to see if this incident is linked to any other active investigation."

Earlier that day, two men were arrested in that same street following an altercation which saw police seize a knife and a metal bar. It is not yet known if these two incidents are linked.
