Hampshire has one of the lowest coronavirus infection rates in the country.

The latest and most complete information on new Covid-19 cases in England, by local authority area, shows that Hampshire county as a whole has the 133rd highest infection rate out of 150 local authorities at 1.2 cases per 100,000 people (18th best).

The latest Public Health England snapshot is for the week ending June 21.

The figures, published by PHE, show the rate of new cases in each area, based on tests that have been carried out in laboratories (‘pillar 1’ of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (‘pillar 2’).

As such the figures gives a more comprehensive overview of the country than the daily figures for local areas that are published on the Department of Health website, which are based only on pillar 1 testing.

In Basingstoke - which these specific figures don't include - there have been a total of two new confirmed cases in the period between June 18 and July 1.
