A warning has been issued after footage captured the moment an alleged attempted burglar sprinted away from a house.

Tom Ridley awoke just before 5am on Thursday morning to the sound of someone trying to break into his home.

Mr Ridley, who lives in Canterbury Close, shared the video as a warning for others to stay alert.

"The TV was on, so the moment he opened the door he would have heard it," Mr Ridley said.

"I was awake at this point from the noise he made as well.

"Definitely not a cat burglar."

He added that the police have been notified and been given a description.

"I was shocked that someone would be so brazen at a time when people are starting to wake up and in quite light conditions," he added.

"The guy was trying doors into the estate as there is now more footage showing the same guy with the Nike jumper in the estate on other roads."

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: " We can confirm that we were called to reports of an attempted burglary at 4.51am this morning.

"The victim described the burglar as male, approximately 6ft and brown hair, while wearing a white t-shirt, grey shorts and dark shoes.
