PICTURES of army personnel at the Covid test centre in the Leisure Park show the site in operation despite Hampshire Hospitals announcing Basingstoke hospital is Covid-free.

A handful of people were seen waiting in their cars as they were ushered by army personnel to take their Covid test.

Two red roofed makeshift tents were erected on the site, with a group of troops positioned in the corner of the grounds, as they distributed tests to the public.

There were 12 British army personnel on site at Basingstoke Leisure Park as part of a Mobile Testing Unit (MTU).

They were scheduled to work between 10am and 5pm this afternoon.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said: "With regards to their future deployment, whilst we train and provide troops for the MTUs, we do not plan their daily programme."

It is unknown how long the troops will be stationed at the Covid testing site for.
