A petition has been started which calls on the council to reconsider its bin collection service.

General waste collections across the borough have been reduced to fortnightly during the coronavirus pandemic because of staffing issues.

Councillor Hayley Eachus, who is responsible for the services has previously said that the collections will be restored to weekly "as soon as we are able and it is safe to do so".

However, she says that she recognises that some residents are keen on moving permanently to fortnightly collections, whilst others have "found the change more difficult".

Well it seems that some people have had enough of waiting and want to see the change back as soon as possible.

A petition was started on Monday and has already gained more than 130 signatures.

The petition read: "During lock down the weekly bin collections have been changed to two weekly.

"This has left us with a fly tip issue as well as general waste being stacked and not collected.

"Bins are not big enough for families and with everyone home we are all filling out bins with about four days of the bins being emptied.

"We would like to council to consider bringing back weekly collections."

Comments on the petition echoed the sentiment.

One person wrote: "2 weekly will be a nightmare with rats and vermin and not being able to get to the local dump as no slots will also mean more fly tipping of general wast" whereas another said that the bins weren't big enough for fortnightly collections.
