A WELL known DJ, Derek John Colman has been dubbed a 'legend in his own disco'.
Del, as he was known to his family and many friends, was extremely outgoing, a big music lover and confirmed 'Trekky' who loved all things Star Trek.
Through his mobile DJ show, he worked many clubs and private functions providing a variety of music for all ages and was particularly skilled at selecting music thanks to his little known talent as a pianist.
His travelling disco show was renowned around the area and he was used to constantly talking and being entertaining.
Del, who attended Northam and Deanery Schools and Taunton's College as a youngster, had associations with the 25th Southampton (Northam) Sea Scouts and Venture Scouts and Southampton Canoe Club, as well as several working men's clubs, particularly Northam.
He helped the Barrington Theatre in Ferndown produce their Children in Need shows and enjoyed model making and fixing anything electronic.
Del lost his long battle with cancer aged 65.
He leaves his wife Dot, brother Malcolm and grown up children Sabrina and Jason.
The funeral is due to take place at Wessex Vale Crematorium in West End on June 22 at 1.45pm. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, only family and close friends are able to attend, but others are welcome to listen to the service being relayed outside the chapel or see it via web cast.
