A REPEATED Basingstoke offender has been charged with fraud, an attempted theft of a car, and breaching a restraining order.

Jay Alex Charles Sleator, 31, of no fixed abode, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on June 1 where he pleaded guilty to three offences.

Sleator has previously been convicted of 107 convictions and 49 offences.

The court heard on May 12, 2020, Sleator committed fraud and made three transactions using stolen bank cards to purchase scratch cards and tobacco for himself at Tesco Express, on Oakridge Road.

Sleator was also found guilty of attempting to steal a car on Tubb Way on May 12, 2020.

On a separate occasion, Sleator breached his restraining order by speaking to the victim on April 25, 2020 after Basingstoke Family Court prohibited him from doing so on July 26, 2019.

The victim went outside on her balcony and heard Sleator’s voice on the footpath.

Sleator shouted up to the flat and eventually left.

This is the first time Sleator had breached the restraining order since July last year, the court heard.

Probation Officer, Mr James, said: “Sleator was released in December 2019, and re-released in February 2020.

“Life is fairly chaotic for Sleator and struggles with staying in touch. Imposing a curfew would keep him out of trouble.”

Throughout Sleator’s convictions, he has been in and out of Mary Rose Court, a service catered for single homeless people aged between 18 and 65.

Sleator was given six weeks community order at Mary Rose Court and ordered to pay £95 charge as well as a collection order of £2,000.
