AN online craft maker and kids activity coordinator features for the first time in The Point's associate artists programme for the next year.

Two theatre makers make up the other two slots in the flagship programme, which sees the Eastleigh arts venue offer artists and companies the opportunity to work together, grow their audience and develop as professionals.

The 2020/21 Associate Artists are Curious Pheasant, a Hampshire-based company who explore traditional pieces of theatre in non-traditional ways; Gemma Kerr, a director and theatre-maker working across the country focusing on new writing, site-responsive performance and socially engaged work; and Sophie Ross, a video content producer and editor of online craft and kids’ activity tutorials.

The programme was created in 2009 and over the last ten years, artists supported by the programme have gone on to achieve huge success. ZoieLogic Dance Theatre have now become an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation and Two Destination Language have won numerous awards.

The venue’s Artist Development Producer Vicki Hargreaves said: “The Associate programme goes from strength to strength each year and at times where we need it most, these programmes are here to support artists to develop ideas and flourish, growing their practise and develop sustainable and resilient creative businesses.

“We are extremely excited to be able to offer bespoke packages to fit with the needs and wants of each artist.”

The three selected artists are already working closely with the venue and will receive vital mentoring and developmental support from The Point's creative team, including access to the venue's on site creation space. They will also be involved in community outreach projects, delivering workshops and engaging residents in Eastleigh

The Point’s flagship Associate Artist programme is made possible thanks to the venue’s Arts Council England funding.

As Associate Artists for 2020/21, the three selected artists will receive vital mentoring and developmental support from The Point’s creative team including access to the venue’s on-site Creation Space, allowing them time in residence to create new touring work. They will also be involved in community outreach projects, delivering workshops and engaging local residents in the borough of Eastleigh.
