Thousands of pounds have been raised for the family of a moped rider killed in a Basingstoke crash earlier this week.

The crash took place at 5.37pm on Tuesday. A brown Honda moped was travelling Westbound on Churchill Way West when it collided with a grey Scania lorry, close to the Victory Roundabout.

The moped rider was taken to hospital with a serious head injury but later died.

Since then, a GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of the victim, who has been named as 34-year-old Marcos Vinicius Martins.

The page read: "We are raising money for the wake and cremation of Marcos Vinicius Martins, who crashed on a motorcycle behind a truck and died, I would like everyone's help, may God bless this sad moment of our lives."

If anyone witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage, they are asked to call police on 101 quoting Operation Chartered.
