CREDIT cards, car keys and a video game console were stolen from a Basingstoke house last night as residents slept upstairs.

The incident took place overnight between Friday and Saturday in Beech Way, Basingstoke.

Police believe that the culprits gained access via the back door before leaving via the front.

They stole a handbag containing various items such as credit cards, as well as an Xbox and some car keys.

The handbag has since been recovered in Cotswold Close but with most of its contents missing.

The owners of the house, who were upstairs sleeping at the time, only discovered what had happened when they awoke and found the front door open.

They have since shared a post on social media showing CCTV images of the suspected thieves and pleading with anyone who may have further footage or useful information to get in touch.

A message read: “The thieves had gained access to our back garden through a neighbour's garden and came into our house whilst we slept upstairs.

“After speaking to a few neighbours, we can see from CCTV footage that at least two men were trying doors and garages along our road between 00:30 and 02:30 this morning.

“We don't think we'll get the stolen items back but would ask if anyone local has any CCTV footage that may be helpful between these times to get in touch.

“Remember to check doors and windows because thieves are still out making others’ lives a misery.

“Stay safe.”

Police, meanwhile, have urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch on 101 quoting the reference number 44200154506.
