BASINGSTOKE police have warned they may take enforcement action by imposing a fixed penalty notice after protesters were seen flouting lockdown rules.

Two policemen dealt with ten protesters who took to War Memorial Park in Basingstoke on Monday afternoon to make a stand against the lockdown measures.

One of the female protesters, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Gazette: “We want to save our rights. We believe the number of people dead from Covid is exemplified.

"The number dying from Covid is not correct. Extra numbers are being added into Covid. We don’t want to be unlawfully rejected or kept inside.

"Every Monday at 2pm we will be back at War Memorial Park to protest. This is our second week of protesting.

"If we die in custody they will dispose of us any way they like. We don’t want to be vaccinated or kept within.

"We will protest until our rights are restored. Protesters from Hook, Farnborough and Basingstoke were here today.

"Police came over to us but didn’t object as long as we don’t block the path and keep two metres apart. Save Our Rights UK is where we are operating on social media.”

Police posted on their Facebook page: "In these unprecedented times, it’s important that we’re in this together and each and every one of us has a role to play by following government advice. The vast majority are following the advice, and we thank you for listening.

"However, for those who are not heeding the stay at home guidance, our officers will seek to engage, explain the circumstances and encourage you to do the right thing in complying with the government request.

"If considered necessary, we may take enforcement action by way of a Fixed Penalty Notice if you are putting others at risk.

"This evening officers provided advice and moved on a group from War Memorial Park, Basingstoke.

"Despite these reasonable steps, enforcement action has now been taken in Basingstoke Town Centre in relation to the same small group."

Police also said parks for outdoor exercise once a day is still permitted but only alone or with members of your household, not in groups.

Communal places within parks such as sports courts, playgrounds and outdoor gyms have been closed to protect everyone’s health.

Police ask that households use parks responsibly and keep two metres apart from others at all times.

Unless you are with members of your household, gatherings of more than two people in parks and other public spaces have been banned.

"Our top priorities are to ensure that we keep our local communities safe, maintaining the best service to the public, while also protecting officers and those within our community during these challenging times.

"We, together, can help support the nationwide response by following Government advice," police added.
