A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a policeman was attacked while responding to an incident at an apartment block in Basingstoke.
Officers say they attended the Churchill Place apartment block, in Churchill Way, at 4.30pm on Sunday following a concern for welfare call.
While at the scene, an officer was attacked by a man and left with serious injuries.
One of the apartment block's residents told the Gazette that the assailant had stabbed the police officer.
The officer has been left seriously injured and is currently receiving treatment at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
His condition is described as not life-threatening though his injuries are serious.
Police said his next of kin have been informed and his family are receiving support.
A 43-year-old Basingstoke man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
