The NUMBER of cases of coronavirus in Hampshire has increased by 50 in 24 hours.

This brings the total amount of Covid-19 cases to 317 in the region.

As of Friday, Hampshire has the second highest amount of cases outside of London, as Birmingham overtakes with 366.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that 267 patients in Hampshire had tested positive.

The news comes after the prime minister Boris Johnson, health secretary Matt Hancock and chief medical officer Chris Witty all test positive for the virus.

And NHS England announced that a further 168 people from England who tested positive for the disease had died in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 689.

There have been 2,885 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 14,543.

Out of 14,543 coronavirus cases, 135 people have recovered.
