An 82-year-old man from Basingstoke is stuck indoors after a storm in February took down a five-foot tree in his garden.

Kenneth May, 82, from Penrith road, suffers with COPD, a respiratory condition and is self-isolating for the next 12 weeks.

“The tree fell down on February 9 because of the storm. I cannot use the clothesline and do not know how much damage has been caused.

“The storm has taken several fence panels down. I only have five feet of the garden space remaining.

“I am annoyed that no one has contacted me. It has been going on for seven weeks. It is horrible,” Kenneth said.

Kenneth’s son, Trevor, explained that they have been trying to get the tree cleared out.

“Clarion is telling us it is the tenant’s responsibility.

“I feel sorry for my father who is stuck indoors because the tree is not being cleared away,” Trevor added.

A neighbour said: "We've contacted the housing many times and they've failed to help us."

A Clarion spokesperson said: “We appreciate the inconvenience the fallen tree has caused, and we have been trying to get hold of those living at the property from which it fell to discuss its removal. We recognise it is especially important to have access to the garden now, so we are making arrangements ourselves for its removal.”
