A CLEANING company in Basingstoke is still making their staff attend work or face no payment during the Covid-19 pandemic, employees have claimed.

An employee from cleaning company, Astramerix, on Chineham business park, was allegedly told that if they failed to turn up to work, they would not be paid.

The Gazette has contacted Astramerix but they have refused to comment.

Since this announcement, the staff member has handed in their notice and others are considering doing the same, an employee has shared.

The staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous, experienced health issues and was admitted to hospital a few weeks ago.

They took two weeks off work to recover but was informed that they would not be paid.

“My colleague reported that they saw an office worker coughing and sneezing and they reported it to the line manager who thanked the cleaner for letting them know.

“The government announced the new restrictions on Monday evening, telling the public to stay at home and only leave for essential travel.

“It’s a shame that the company is not protecting their cleaning staff,” the cleaner added.

The cleaner claims to have been advised to continue working despite the government’s new rules.
