ONE of Basingstoke’s popular annual events has been postponed this year.

The Basingstoke Festival of Transport by Basingstoke Deane Rotary was due to be held in the Memorial Park on May 3, 2020.

The event originally organised by The Thornycroft Society has become of the largest events of its kind in the South of England.

Last year, it attracted nearly 1000 vehicles and was attended by over 20,000 visitors.

Basingstoke’s Festival of Transport will now take place on September 13, 2020.

The event organiser, Rotarian Kevin Vickers said: “In accordance with UK Government advice on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, the Basingstoke Festival of Transport on Sunday May 3 will not now take place but it has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday 13 September 2020.

“All those who have already registered to bring their vehicles along to the event on May 3 will in due course be contacted to verify if they still wish to attend the event on September 13 2020, if so their Vehicle Entry Passes already issued will remain valid.

“Stall Holders and Traders will be contacted separately to finalise arrangements. Car Clubs co-ordinators will likewise be contacted individually.

“I sincerely apologise for having to reschedule the event but ask for your understanding in the rather unusual time that we seem to be going through in the world."

President of Basingstoke Deane Alf McCarthy added: “We sincerely hope that all our Exhibitors, Stall Holders and Trader stay fit and well during this current pandemic and are able to join us on Sunday September 13 2020.”
