Prince Albert II of Monaco has tested positive for Covid-19, making the first royal diagnosed with the virus.

The head of state confirmed he had contracted the virus this afternoon, days after he announced new ways to fight the disease.

The 62-year-old is currently being cared for by a specialist team at Princess Grace Hospital Centre after he was tested at the beginning of this week.

Doctors have said that his health currently "does not inspire any concern" and that he would continue to work from home following self-isolation.

The Monaco Grand Prix has been cancelled following the travel ban due to the risks of spreading the virus further.
