A THIEF who stole electric toothbrushes and scales was made to pay £4 in compensation after pleading guilty to the offence.

Ganesh Sarki, of Gower Close, Basingstoke, admitted to stealing three electric toothbrushes, one electric weighing scale and a box of tin foil from Wilko in Basingstoke on January 3.

The items cost £71.50 in total, but the 28-year-old was made to pay just £4 in compensation by Basingstoke magistrates. He was also fined £80 for the offence.


A MAN has been jailed for eight weeks after admitting to stealing alcohol and yoghurts.

Terrance Bolton, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Basingstoke magistrates court to taking alcohol and yoghurts worth £15.50 from Iceland on March 2.

He committed the offence with a Jacalyn Jones, who was separately sentenced to 18 weeks in prison for a spate of related thefts across the town.

Bolton, meanwhile, was sent to prison for four weeks for the offence, plus another four weeks for a second charge of assaulting Deniss Kuzmins by beating him on the same day.

The prison sentence was deemed necessary due to the 39-year-old’s record of previous offending. He was also made to pay £35 in compensation.


A DRIVER has been banned from driving for almost a year-and-a-half after being found behind the wheel more than three times over the drug driving limit.

Glyn Davies, of Winterthur Way, Basingstoke, was stopped at the Shell petrol station, in Winnall, Winchester, on October 27, last year. He was found to have 166 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine per litre of blood. The legal limit is 50.

The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence at Basingstoke magistrates court and was fined £600.

He was also made to pay costs of £85 and a £60 victim surcharge, and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for 16 months.


A BASINGSTOKE man who tested 0.1 micrograms over the drug driving limit has been banned from the roads for a year.

Bradley Riley, of Kelvin Hill, had been driving on Churchill Way West on November 16, last year, when he was found to have in his system 2.1 micrograms of THC per litre of blood. The legal limit is two.

Magistrates banned the 32-year-old from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months.

He was also fined £120 and made to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.


A TEENAGER has denied riding a motorcycle through Basingstoke at more than twice the speed limit.

Raoul Rabinowitz, of Turnpike Road, Newbury, was allegedly riding a black Yamaha motorcycle along Worting Road on January 17 when he was clocked at 60mph. The speed limit is 30mph.

The 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to the offence at Basingstoke magistrates court, after which the case was referred to Aldershot magistrates court for a full hearing next month.


A BASINGSTOKE man has been given a conditional discharge after admitting to beating a woman.

Jack Eaton, of Blue Hut Way, appeared at Basingstoke magistrates court where he was accused of assaulting a woman by beating on February 16.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Magistrates also made him pay a £21 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

The court heard how the victim did not support the prosecution.
