A school that was closed due to coronavirus concerns will reopen tomorrow.

Yesterday afternoon, Rickmansworth School in Scots Hill, Croxley Green, sent an email out to parents and carers explaining that two "members of the school community" were being tested for coronavirus.

The school is still waiting for the test results of two students, but has been given the all clear to reopen.

The email, sent by head teacher Matthew Fletcher, was circulated widely on social media.

At the time, the school said it would close until Monday.

Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed today it will reopen the school tomorrow (Friday, February 28).

The county council said it closed the school on "purely precautionary early advice from Public Health England" after two pupils had cold-like symptoms after returning from a school ski trip to Italy.

It said: "As the situation has been changing, we have monitored it and are now able to reopen the school on the latest advice from Public Health England. We will be opening the school tomorrow.

"Some of our pupils recently returned from a ski trip to Italy in a non-lock down area. Since returning, two pupils who were suffering cold-like symptoms have been tested for coronavirus as a precaution. We are currently awaiting the results."

The Observer understands pupils had gone to Piancavello, Friuli-Venezia Giulia - a region which borders the Veneto region - Veneto being one of two regions in Italy where several towns have been in lockdown.

Piancavello is some distance away, around 100 miles from a town that has been put on lockdown.

Watford Observer:

The email sent by Rickmansworth School

The email sent out to parents by Rickmansworth School yesterday read: “We currently have two members of the school community that are being tested for coronavirus and, accordingly, Public Health England’s advice at 4pm today was to close the school until the outcome of the tests were known.

“We anticipate the results will be available in the next 24 to 48 hours. Accordingly, we do not expect the school to reopen until Monday, March 2 at the earliest.

“Over the forthcoming days there may be other students that are being tested for coronavirus.”

The email added “it is essential” that parents tell the school if their child is being tested for coronavirus.

This morning, two more people have tested positive for coronavirus in England.

The two patients have been transferred to specialist NHS infection centres after contracting the virus in Italy and Tenerife, according to England's chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty.

The new cases bring the total number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the UK to 15.

Authorities in Italy have reported that the number of people infected in the country grew to 447 and 12 people have died, while Denmark reported its first case.

One of the cases is understood to be a parent from Burbage Primary School in Buxton, Derbyshire, who caught the virus while in Tenerife.
