Lane closures are currently in place.
The work is causing delays at both Black Dam Roundabout and onto the M3 northbound.
Traffic is currently backlogged for up to five miles along the motorway, with tailbacks as far as Dummer reported.
The roadworks are set to remain in place until March 6, according to the borough council’s website.
